SWEDISH HOUSE PARTY COMES TO ABU DHABI’S VOLVO OCEAN RACE DESTINATION VILLAGE
Abu Dhabi, UAE – 22nd December 2014: Sweden – which next year will host the end of the 2014/2015 Volvo Ocean Race (VOR) when the hardy fleet sails into Gothenburg next June – will, on Sunday, December 28th, be pressing home its own celebratory style when it brings a Swedish House Party to Abu Dhabi’s VOR Destination Village on the Corniche Breakwater.
Being brought to the free-to-enter village in co-operation with the Swedish Embassy in the UAE the House Party will also host the Emirates’ debut of the Lunch Beat – lunch and dance – phenomenon which began in Stockholm four years ago and has since been successfully run in 90 cities.
At 1pm a Swedish DJ will take to the stage for ‘Lunch Beat’ when Swedish chef Marlin Johannsen will be showing village goers how to make the traditional open ‘Scandinavian’ sandwich.
From 1pm-5pm youngsters can learn to play football on the beach with Swedish international Christian ‘Chippen’ Wilhelmsson who has previously played for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia and now plays for the UAE’s Baniyas Club.
Giving visitor-goers food-for-thought will be Sweden’s Masterchef judge Anders Dahlbom, one of the most decorated chefs in the country who’ll prepare and serve up a traditional Swedish starter, main course and dessert for visitors to sample.
The VOR Destination Village is packed with family fun activities as Abu Dhabi marks its hosting of the hardy VOR fleet and celebrates the emirate’s rich maritime history. The village is open daily to visitors from 12 noon until 9pm on weekdays and on weekends from 11am to midnight until January 3. Opening times on December 25th differ with the village accepting visitors from 4pm until 10pm.
